Sick Children Guidelines
You should keep your child home:
- If they have a temperature of 100 or above.
- Temperature should be normal for 24 hours before returning to school.
- If they have had vomiting or diarrhea within 24 hours.
- If they have an undiagnosed rash.
- If they have a contagious cold with watery nose, glassy eyes, and persistent cough or sneeze.
If you feel your child belongs in school with a cold, please provide tissues and remind your child to use them. Children need to know that colds can be passed easily from one person to another by sneezing without the protection of a tissue. This is also the perfect time to reinforce with your child the importance of good handwashing. Strep throat and/or scarlet fever: child should remain home until 24 hours after antibiotic started. Returning to school following absence: Every parent whose child has been absent for even one day must send to school a note stating the reason for the absence.
